Meet Jesse Sanderson

1. Can you give me your job title and a description of the work you do?

My job title is System Administrator II/Help Desk Coordinator. My primary responsibility is to monitor the HMIS help desk, both online and on the phone, for any requests for technical assistance that come in. From there I will take care of a share of these requests myself, and the rest I will distribute to other MCAH team members to handle. Other typical responsibilities involve things such as overseeing the HMIS data for the AmeriCorps program statewide, organizing the annual HMIS Summit, and managing the content on the HMIS Learning Center website.

2. How does your work help homeless people, or help more people become housed?

While MCAH is not a direct provider of housing services, the HMIS provides a way for those agencies that do provide services to organize their data as well as identify areas of their service delivery that may need more work. Additionally, by manning the phone line I receive a number of calls from individuals seeking assistance with housing and am able to refer them to the most appropriate place where they can receive help.

3. Is there one project or achievement with MCAH that you are particularly proud of?

For the last several years I have been part of the team that develops the Annual Report on Ending Homelessness in Michigan. As part of this multi-agency team, I have compiled the data from the HMIS that fills the report. It is nice to be able to provide this information to the public so that they can see the work that is being done statewide as well as the key areas identified that will require more work in the future.

4. Is there anything else you want to say or would want people to know?

I would like to specifically thank all of the frontline workers in the homeless service sector statewide for the work that they do to try to end homelessness. Their dedicated work is the most key part of achieving the goals that we all have in this state.
