Applying Best Practices For Homeless Services and Supportive Housing Training

This is intended to be a two day training, however it is possible to sign up for only one day. Here are the agendas for both days:
Day 1: Overview of Best Practices For Homeless Services and Supportive Housing
- Describe the four elements of the mindset and heart-set of best practices
- Explain three principles of housing first
- Identify three benefits of integrating peers in service delivery
- Give an example each of the biological, psychological, social, spiritual impact of trauma
- Name three ways to promote post-traumatic growth in clients
- Name three ways to foster personal resilience and renewal
Day 2: Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Find Their Own Reasons for Change
- Explain the four processes that guide motivational conversations
- Provide examples of three core interviewing skills used in MI
- Identify three questions to help strengthen tenants’ motivation to chang
- Describe how to effectively provide information and suggestions
CE credits per day:
- ASWB: 6 hours
- NAADAC: 6 hours
- NBCC: 6 hours
About the trainer:
Ken Kraybill has worked in health, behavioral health, and homelessness/housing for over 30 years. He is a Senior Associate at the Center for Social Innovation and Director of Training for t3 (think. teach. transform.). Drawing upon his direct service and supervisory experience, Ken has developed various curricula in best practices. He provides onsite and online training nationally on Motivational Interviewing, supervision, outreach and engagement, tenancy support, trauma-informed care, and renewal for care providers. Ken has an MSW from the University of Washington in Seattle and an undergraduate degree from Goshen College in Indiana.
