Diversity, Equity, Including and Belonging

As MCAH prioritizes authentic engagement externally, we are also taking a closer look internally at our practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). Examining and improving internal practices is an important step toward creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.

By fostering DEIB within our agency, we seek to enhance collaboration, creativity, and overall effectiveness.

What We Found

As a result of the DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) work, MCAH was able to identify areas of strength and areas that need improvement, allowing the organization to develop strategies and initiatives to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment.

  • Improvement in our recruitment, hiring, and staff support policies and practices

  • Complete a broad document review

  • Diversify partnerships

We would like to thank Kelli Beavers and LaTosch Consulting for their support with this process.

  • Collaborated with LaTosch Consulting for our DEI Audit process, involving both staff and board members in the development of a comprehensive action plan.

  • Conducted a Stakeholders Survey (details on the number of respondents to be inserted).

  • Established an action plan implementation subcommittee to ensure the successful execution of our initiatives.

  • Enhanced and standardized our recruitment, hiring, and staff evaluation processes for improved efficiency.

  • Allocated resources to create a part-time HR designated role, enhancing our organizational structure.

  • Secured acceptance into the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s Racial Equity Cohort, participating in a kickoff meeting with Lisa and Eric H. in DC, and Ashia and Kelli virtually. Ongoing participation is planned through the first half of 2024.

  • Implemented regular all-staff meetings, incorporating specific policy manual changes related to vacation time and other pertinent topics.

Shaping 2024

  • Our DEIB action plan implementation committee continues to drive our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

  • Engaging staff in ongoing in-service training and current events discussions through regular all-staff meetings to foster a culture of continuous learning and awareness.

We actively participated in the kickoff meeting, with Lisa and Eric H. present in DC and Ashia and Kelli attending virtually. Our active involvement is scheduled to extend through the first half of 2024.
