Meet Hannah Patton

1. Can you give me your job title and a description of the work you do?

I am currently within the role of a System Administrator II with the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) team at MCAH, primarily assisting our users with technical questions pertaining to HMIS. I also conduct training, assist with reporting, and work with communities and their agencies to ensure they have optimal data quality.

2. How does your work help homeless people, or help more people become housed?

Our work is integral to reflecting the impact of services provided to those combating homelessness by utilizing data to tell the story of what’s happening for those unhoused in our communities. Agencies that are serving clients directly and that utilize HMIS to collect that data can use it to help inform how they feel funding should be allocated and what services need to be prioritized in their community.

3. Is there one project or achievement with MCAH that you are particularly proud?

One of the projects that I am most proud of since joining MCAH in May of this year is working on a couple presentations for the HMIS Summit that we host annually. It was rewarding to provide training and content to our users that will ultimately benefit the work that they do daily, especially still being new to the organization myself.

4. Is there anything else you want to say or would want people to know?

Prior to joining MCAH, I spent nearly 5 years as a Service Coordinator for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, assisting Veterans and their households with obtaining rental housing, or assisting with maintaining their current housing situation. Prior to that I was enlisted in the United States Navy, discharged honorably after serving four years as a Gas Turbine Electrician. I graduated from Central Michigan University utilizing my G.I. Bill benefits in 2016, and now live with my family (including two cats, Harry and Stanley) in Kalamazoo, MI. I enjoy running, yoga, building my vinyl record collection, listening to indie music, watching movies (anything that A24 produces, especially), and going to art museums (the Art Institute of Chicago is my favorite).
