Working With Sex Offender Populations

General Info
Attendees will learn types of offenses, Sex Offender Registry requirements, and common barriers faced by people with CSC convictions. Attendees will also hear about housing provided for people on parole funded by Michigan Department of Corrections through its Offender Success program. People in Offender Success funded housing with CSC convictions face additional barriers to reentry.
The webinar will be especially helpful for anyone who provides housing services to people who may have a CSC conviction, as well as anyone with an interest in learning more about the topic. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of CSC convictions in Michigan and the need to create housing access for people with CSC convictions.

Instructor Info
Mariam DeLand, LMSW, works for the Michigan Department of Corrections’ Offender Success program. She is a liaison between the Department and contracted providers in the community. She has a background in juvenile justice, including work with juveniles convicted of sex offenses, prison-based mental health services, outpatient mental health services, and reentry. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Adrian College and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan with a focus in Interpersonal Practice and Management of Human Services.
