AmeriCorps Week

Sunday, March 13 to Friday, March 19

The Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness (MCAH) is celebrating AmeriCorps Week from March 13th through March 19th. AmeriCorps Week is an opportunity to recognize the millions of Americans that have committed to national and community service through AmeriCorps service. This year’s AmeriCorps Week theme is ‘Together, we are AmeriCorps.’ Service brings people together and bridges divides, and that’s what members, volunteers, and programs do every day.

MCAH would like to thank the hundreds of AmeriCorps members who have served as MCAH’s AmeriCorps State members and Capacity Building to End Homelessness AmeriCorps VISTA members since our national service programming began in 2009, as well as the countless housing and homeless service providers who have partnered with these programs to facilitate service experience and professional development for members in our work toward ending homelessness in Michigan.

MCAH’s AmeriCorps members commit to one-year service terms, earning a modest living allowance and an education award for federal student loan repayment or cost of attendance for continued education. These members have helped to meet critical needs for Michiganders experiencing or at-risk of homelessness by providing direct, targeted services focused on providing comprehensive services, increasing self-sufficiency, obtaining and maintaining housing, and by building the capacity of community organizations in order to more effectively and efficiently meet community needs.
